Clerkenwell is in the London Borough of Islington, bordering Old Street and Chancery Lane, with St. Paul’s to the south.

It really is a lovely area and used to be known as London’s Little Italy due to the large concentration of Italians living there in ye olde days. Thankfully, their influence can still be experienced in a handful of fantastic Italian eateries dotted around (you can even buy a Vespa on Clerkenwell Road if you want to fully immerse yourself in la dolce vita!) and the area is now seen as a real foodie destination, with Michelin starred restaurants, famous gastropubs, and cool bars drawing in hungry, hip and professional crowds.

It’s not only about great food, though, as Clerkenwell strikes a dynamic balance between fun and professionalism, with fantastic entertainment options combining with cutting edge design. It is the creative home for architecture studios, contemporary showrooms and design houses, with Alexander McQueen’s studio also on Clerkenwell Road (so you can pop in and pick up a fancy t-shirt after you’ve bought your Vespa).

Clerkenwell is the perfect location for those who want to have their cake and eat it: a central London area with easy access to the City, yet still with a quiet, residential feel. Ian Swale, Director of Lettings at Frank Harris & Company’s City branch says that this central London neighbourhood has a truly unique character; always buzzing, always friendly, always exciting.

There’s the contrast of old and new buildings, narrow roads and cobbled streets, and the many great places to eat and drink. There’s a real local bustle around here that’s infectious and it’s easy to see how residents grow roots once they settle in.
