What is great about living in the area?
To live here is to experience the culture and the many eclectic bars and restaurants that run the length of the South Bank. The area really took off as a place to live in the new millennium with the arrival of the London Eye, Tate Modern, the Millennium Bridge and the expansion of Borough Market.
What is coming up that will make it even more attractive?
One Blackfriars on the south-west side of Blackfriars Bridge will add a new dimension to the area. As well as the 50-storey tower, it will provide a boutique hotel, a landscaped public piazza as well as shops, restaurants and bars.
Tell us about one of your favourite hidden gems.
Go to the BFI Bar & Kitchen and look for the secret door behind a bookcase. It will take you into an intimate cocktail bar called the Drawing Room that was recently named as one of London’s top library bars.
New South Bank development built around central courtyard garden
Valentine Place, SE1 is a collection of 42 new homes nestled around a central courtyard garden on the vibrant South Bank. The development by Crest Nicholson comprises one, two and three bedroom apartments, penthouses, duplexes and mews houses from £730,000.
The contemporary warehouse style blends with the retained period façade of the Maltina bakery building that was formerly on the site. The development is in a quiet road moments from Southwark underground station.
Features of the development include:
- Modern interiors with full height doors, hard wood flooring, Siemens appliances and luxury bathrooms
- Most apartments served by passenger lifts
- Concierge service
- Cycle storage with secure access
- Local car sharing club within 160m
The South Bank is home to some of London’s most iconic landmarks, including the National Theatre, Tate Modern and the London Eye. It is also a cultural hub with an abundance of cafes and restaurants. This, and the Southbank Centre’s many festivals, makes it the most dynamic stretch of the Thames.
Valentine Place is in Zone 1 and is highly accessible for public transport:
- Southwark Station – 320m (Jubilee line)
- Waterloo Station – 480m (National Rail, Jubilee, Northern, Waterloo & City and Bakerloo Underground lines)

One bedroom flat to rent Norfolk House,Trig Lane EC4V
Frank Harris and Company’s Long Lane office is marketing a flat for rental in Norfolk House, Trig Lane EC4V 3QQ. The property is notable because it has south-facing river views – making it one of the very select few in the City that directly overlooking the river.
All the rooms in the flat, plus a big balcony have awesome views over the river. Principal sights include: Tate Modern, Globe Theatre, Millennium Bridge, Southwark Bridge and the “Shard” (under construction). As well as being a rarely seen property, the location is quite interesting too – with history both ancient and modern, situated as it is between Queenhithe and the Millennium Bridge.
Says Ian Swale from Frank Harris and Company’s Barbican, City and Clerkenwell office: “Queenhithe used to be a Saxon (and probably Roman) dock just upstream from Southwark bridge. Possibly the location of where the Romans first established themselves in London. When the tide is out there is quite a substantial bit of beach. While the sand may not be exactly sunbathing quality, beachcombing could result in the uncovering of an ancient artefact or two!”
The property is being marketing at £495 per week. For more details click here or call 020 7600 7000.
